Safely burying underground

For infrastructure projects and the laying of lines often associated with them, the following applies: as many applications as necessary; as few as possible. The machines used for cable and pipe laying technology must be technically mature in order to carry out and record stable installations for the client over many years, regardless of the location. Lancier Cable GmbH from Drensteinfurt in North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the leading developers, manufacturers and marketers of laying machines and equipment for cables and pipes. The medium-sized company uses the components of ehb electronics from Hanover to display the current blowing parameters with automated logging for safe and professional cable laying work.

Deutsche Telekom, as one of the largest customers in the telecommunications sector, provides its contractors with the "additional technical agreement for construction services in the telecommunications network Part 40 (ZTV TKNetz 40)". Since 01.10.2017, this agreement requires an automated protocol for the blowing in of minicables. This protocol is automatically generated by the blowing device and must be supplied to the customer. The injection data are transmitted to the electronics by various sensors.

The following injection data are recorded:

  • Injection length, injection speed
  • engine pressure
  • thrust
  • pipe pressure
  • Environmental data (GPS and temperature)

Careful laying is recorded

This is exactly where the smart combination of Lancier's blow-in technology with the sensor components from ehb electronics comes in. Depending on the application, the blow-in systems are driven pneumatically or hydraulically. The cables are pushed through the machine on the one hand and conveyed on the other hand by an air flow in the pipe, which at the same time minimizes the frictional forces in the pipe.
Electronic blow-in logging is carried out via the robust ehb SMARTdisplay 43, which is connected to the machine via a data acquisition module and can be used for one or more machines. Tim Br├╝ggemann, Head of Sales and Technology at Lancier Cable GmbH, explains: "The automatic logging and visualization in a diagram make it easier for the customer to explain the relationships between thrust, speed and air flow in the pipe on the construction site, and the relationships between the entire blowing process are also well illustrated".

Updates - easy to install

Updates for the Lancier Plugin can be imported via a USB stick. The protocols on the integrated SD card are transferred to a USB stick and stored in the company archive. The managing director of ehb electronics, Bernd Reinmold, explains: "Particularly in the area of infrastructure and construction projects, the machines used must be able to operate quickly.

Good prospects for cable and pipe laying technology

The demand for technologically high-quality and at the same time ecologically and economically working machines for cable and pipe laying work will continue to develop positively in the future. In particular, digital access for rural areas will be boosted by the law to facilitate the expansion of digital high-speed networks passed by the Federal Government on 27 January 2016. The Monthly Report 2017 of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWI) states: "With the increase in the budget for the broadband subsidy programme, the Federal Government is now providing around four billion euros for the expansion of future-oriented broadband networks with a minimum download rate of 50 Mbit/s by 2020.".
